Published in 1610/11 Cartographer John Speed gives us an insight of how York was laid out at that time.
This talk takes a look at John Speed’s Map of York, we discover which buildings remain to the present day, as well as spotting which streets were yet to be constructed.
Because there is so much information to be noted on this map 7 different Talks have been created for you to choose from:
Talk 1: A general look at the map, highlighting some of the significant areas.
Talk 2: Looking at the Bootham, York Minster and Monkgate areas.
Talk 3: Looking at the Goodramgate, Layerthorpe, and River Foss areas.
Talk 4: Looking at the Stonegate, Davygate and Coney Street areas.
