Written Scheme of Investigation
If the Notice of Decision for your planning application includes a condition for Archaeology, a Written Scheme of Investigation (WSI) will be required.
This initial document will provide information regarding the type of archaeological work to be undertaken – Watching Brief, Trial Trenches, or Strip, Map & Record Evaluation.
It will outline the archaeological methods to be carried out, position of trenches, etc., specific to the individual project.
The WSI will also outline off-site procedures, such as processing of archaeological material and specialist requirement, which will follow the site work, resulting in the project report.
N.B. The WSI will require approval prior to any below-ground work being carried out on the development site.
