Lendal Bridge, York

Find out about the story behind one of the bridges which crosses over the River Ouse in York.

The story begins almost 2000 years ago in the Roman period, when they needed a crossing between the colonia and the fortress.

In later years the use of a ferry, until, in the 19th century, the original bridge was designed.  During construction this bridge collapsed and a new design called for, which stands today.
